Having studied music in Europe since the age of 10, I drew a great deal of influences from that style of teaching. Music is not just about learning how to play an instrument but encompasses all aspects such as music theory, aural skills, musicianship, and history. Knowledge of these areas is as important as knowing the mechanism and technique of the instrument. I am not limited to simply teaching saxophone, clarinet or flute; I instruct how to be a well-rounded musician knowing various styles of music and skills to execute any genre of music.
I pride myself on being an active performer on the instruments I teach. This is a very important skill of being a successful teacher; it allows me to demonstrate technique, musicality, phrasing, and articulation to a student. I make this style of coaching a habit as opposed to discussing these points for hours. The lessons I give are productive and beneficial to the student and their musical growth.
